About the Author

Payal Dhar suspects she might be a vampire because she loves working at night; however, there is no other evidence to that effect. She usually writes for a living, and is the author of the Shadow in Eternity trilogy, apart from many short stories for young people. She also writes on computers, technology, books and more. She is supposed to live in Bangalore, but often finds herself in Delhi instead. It’s a mystery. Visit writeside.net to find out more about her.

Slightly Burnt

Slightly Burnt by Payal Dhar is a YA novel about teenagers and their problems. At the same time, it is not, just a novel and addresses issues that are important and need to be spoken about.

We encourage you to buy books from a local bookstore. If that is not possible, please use the links on the page and support us. Thank you.

PLOT:  Sahil and Komal are best friends until he tells her something that he should not have. The conversation threatens to ruin their friendship and put a dent in their relations forever until Komal decides to accept things for what they are.  All this happens in addition to the problems that regular teenagers have to deal with.

CHARACTERS: Komal and Sahil are normal teenagers in our country today. Vikram and Rashmi are Komal’s brother and her other best friend who gets entangled in the whole situation. The people in the book come across as normal everyday people and the youth of the country should identify with them easily.

WHAT I LIKED: The issues addressed in the book are very important ones, and the manner in which they have been dealt with by the author is remarkable. She has not shied away from the pertinent problems and questions that arise out of all that happens. The language and narration are simple but in no way below par. The Cover of the book is very interesting too.

FINAL VERDICT: The issues tackled in the book and the manner in which they are dealt with is the USP of the book. Also, it comes at an age when teens are grappling with a lot of these issues. The fast pace and simple but effective language make it easy to read. I would recommend this book not only to every teenager but to every parent that wants to understand their kid and some of their issues.

The book has been given to me for review by Bloomsbury India. No payment was taken, and my opinions are honest and unbiased.
