January was all about the literature festivals, and looks like at least some of it will be spilling into February. In this post, we bring you a list of literary events in the city, from college festivals with a book-ish focus, to open mics, poetry gatherings, book readings, conferences, seminars and more.

Event Name: Na Guddi… Naa Laadla
What’s it about: A screenwriting workshop on developing and portraying child characters in films, by four writers/directors from indie filmmakers of India

Event Name: Dastaan-Ae-Maaya
What’s it about: A poetry recital on love and longing
Location: The Cuckoo Club, Mumbai

For: Lovers of verse, ages 15 and above, especially if you have been through heartbreak
Event Name: Sham-e-shayari
What’s it about: An introduction to the interpretation of Urdu poetry, taught by Hamid Banu, which will be followed by a month-long short course.
Location: Vidhya Bhawan, Udaipur
Dates: 8 February 2019, 5 PM to 8 PM. The course begins from 11 February. Registrations close on 9 February 2019.

Event Name: Kolkata Literature Festival 2019 at the Book Fair
What’s it about: A day of literary discussions on topics like Indian publishing, telling stories of unheard voices, and more. Check out the schedule for the day, here.

Event Name: Lexicon ’19
What’s it about: The literary festival of Lady Irwin College. It will host events on creative writing, slam poetry and others. Visit their Facebook page for more details.

Event Name: International Book Fair
What’s it about: It’s a book fair for parents and kids, to help them develop a love of reading.
Location: Beanstalk International Preschool, Kolkata
Dates: 14-15 February, 11 AM to 2 PM

Event Name: People’s Literary Festival
What’s it about: A gathering of writers and artists from Pakistan, Kashmir, Bengal, Assam, Odisha will all be speaking against the mainstream, right-wing narrative of today.

What’s it about: A talent competition for performance poetry.
