Booked: Your guide to literary events in February

January was all about the literature festivals, and looks like at least some of it will be spilling into February. In this post, we bring you a list of literary events in the city, from college festivals with a book-ish focus, to open mics, poetry gatherings, book readings, conferences, seminars and more.

So if you’re into books, you might want to read this list of upcoming events, from Mumbai to Bengaluru, from Delhi to Darjeeling.

Event Name: Na Guddi… Naa Laadla
What’s it about: A screenwriting workshop on developing and portraying child characters in films, by four writers/directors from indie filmmakers of India
Location: Screenwriter’s Association of India, Andheri West
Dates: 4 February 2019, 6 PM to 7:30 PM

Event Name: Dastaan-Ae-Maaya
What’s it about: A poetry recital on love and longing
Location: The Cuckoo Club, Mumbai
Dates: 9 February 2019, 5 PM to 6:30 PM

For: Lovers of verse, ages 15 and above, especially if you have been through heartbreak

Event Name:  Sham-e-shayari
What’s it about: An introduction to the interpretation of Urdu poetry, taught by Hamid Banu, which will be followed by a month-long short course.
Location: Vidhya Bhawan, Udaipur
Dates: 8 February 2019, 5 PM to 8 PM. The course begins from 11 February. Registrations close on 9 February 2019.

Event Name: Kolkata Literature Festival 2019 at the Book Fair
What’s it about: A day of literary discussions on topics like Indian publishing, telling stories of unheard voices, and more. Check out the schedule for the day, here.
Location: Central Park, Kolkata
Dates: 9 February 2019, 12 PM to 9 PM

For: People of all ages

Event Name: Lexicon ’19
What’s it about: The literary festival of Lady Irwin College. It will host events on creative writing, slam poetry and others. Visit their Facebook page for more details.
Location: Lady Irwin College, Mandi House, Delhi.
Dates: 9 February 2019, 10 AM to 4:30 PM
Registration and tickets: While registration is closed you can go visit it.
For: College students.

Event Name: International Book Fair
What’s it about: It’s a book fair for parents and kids, to help them develop a love of reading.
Location: Beanstalk International Preschool, Kolkata
Dates: 14-15 February, 11 AM to 2 PM
Registration and tickets: Entry is free. If your child does not study at the school, you can pre-register by calling them. Their contact details are here or reach out to them on Facebook.
For: Parents looking to introduce their kids to books and vice-a-versa.

Event Name: People’s Literary Festival
What’s it about: A gathering of writers and artists from Pakistan, Kashmir, Bengal, Assam, Odisha will all be speaking against the mainstream, right-wing narrative of today.
Location: Sukanta Mancha, Kolkata
Dates: 15-16 February 2019, 12 PM to 8 PM

For:  Everyone, but mostly those who are wishing to stand up against the system.

Event Name: Mehfil: A music and poetry show
What’s it about: A talent competition for performance poetry.
Location: Kunzum Travel Cafe, Hauz Khas Village, Delhi.
Dates: 16 February 2019, from 12 PM to 3 PM
Registration and tickets: Register to compete here. Rs 200 for audience, which can be bought on BookMyShow.
For: Performance, spoken word poets.

Event Name: Book Launch of Cat’s Egg
What’s it about: Book reading by the author, Aparna Karthikeyan
Location: Cat Cafe Studio, Aaram Nagar
Dates: 15 February 2019, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

For: Children

 

Event Name: Seshat’19
What’s it about: A three-day literary fest by Meraki, a college English lit society,
Location: Shri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, New Delhi.
Dates: 16-18 February 2019, 11 AM to 3 PM

For: College students, writers, punsters, scriptwriters, poets and more.

Event Name: Raising Haleem : Writing Stimulated by Food
What’s it about: An event where cooking (vegetarian) Haleem will inspire poetry and stories, and participants get to be a part of a culture of collective cooking.
Location: A Little Anarky Films, New Delhi
Dates: 17 February 2019, 7 PM to 12 AM

Event Name: The Durbar
What’s it about: One-day poetry festival, including readings and discussions by poets such as Linda Ashok, Raja Chakraborty, Kushal Poddar and Nabina Das.

Event Name: Raise YourVoice
What’s it about: An all-women poetry festival to celebrate International Women’s Day, which will also have music, crafts and more.
Location: Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
Dates: 27 February 2019, 10 AM to 7 PM
